Ghanaian actor Big Akwes has stirred major controversy after expressing relief over the death of highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. In a live interview on Obaatanpa Radio, the actor shocked listeners by saying he was “happy” when he heard of the musician’s passing.
While Ghanaians across the country continue to mourn the loss of one of their most iconic musicians, Big Akwes said his comments were not meant to be disrespectful but rather an honest reflection on the pain Daddy Lumba endured in his final years.
I know many Ghanaians won’t be happy with what I’m saying,” Big Akwes stated. “But the truth is, the man really suffered. After his spine surgery, he was confined to a wheelchair for almost three years. His death has ended that pain.
The actor recalled visiting Daddy Lumba’s residence with fellow actor Dr. Likee during the shoot of the music video for “Ofoo.” He added that just a month ago, they had returned to invite the late singer to attend the funeral of Father Abraham’s father at the State House. Despite reportedly being paid GHC 40,000 to attend, Daddy Lumba was unable to make an appearance due to his condition.
I’m not happy because he did something wrong,” Big Akwes clarified. “I’m happy because he really suffered, and those close to him can confirm this. He endured more than most people knew. In fact, he only survived this long because of his wealth
