Popular Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has expressed strong displeasure with organizers of the upcoming vigil for late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, accusing them of deliberately scheduling the event to clash with the premiere of his new film.
According to Lil Win, the vigil, set for August 2, coincides with the official premiere of his movie IbraHIM Traore. Speaking in a video, he described the decision as “wicked” and suggested that the organizers were fully aware of his premiere date in advance.
They know I’m premiering my movie on that same date, but they went ahead to schedule the vigil. It’s not fair,” Lil Win lamented. “I have spent over one million dollars on this project. Yet, this is what I get.
The actor further criticized what he sees as a societal trend in Ghana, saying, “Ghanaians seem to value the dead more than the living.” Despite his frustration, he said he would leave everything to God.
The vigil is being held in honor of Daddy Lumba, a legendary figure in Ghanaian highlife music, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 60 after a short illness. With a musical legacy that includes more than 33 albums and over 200 songs, the passing of Daddy Lumba has been met with widespread mourning across the nation.
Ghana has undoubtedly lost a musical icon. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
